The story
At the founding meeting on 17 December 1952, which was held at the office of Trúgvi Samuelsen, lawyer, were present: Johannes Berg, Eigil Gunnarsson, Kaysten Andreasen, Henry Svenson and Andrew Djurhuus
Total share capital was ISK 10,500.
The first board meeting was held on the same day. The committee included Kaysten Andreasen, Johannes Berg and Eigil Gunnarsson. Jákup Jensen was elected auditor.
The committee was appointed with Eigil Gunnarsson as chairman, Johannes Berg as vice-chairman and Kaysten Andreasen, committee member.
The station was renamed P/F Taxa A/S.
The taxi had a phone. 450 all the years. Later, number 650 was added. Those who called for a car had to tell them at the telephone exchange which station they wanted, otherwise they were just diverted to some car station in town.
When it was announced in 1957 that automatic telephones were on the way, an application was immediately submitted for the telephone number 1-2-3-4, and this has been part of Auto’s telephone number to this day.

New name – old place
P/F Taxa was a combination of the stations Taxa and Bilstøðin in J. C. Svabosgøta.
On April 22, 1955, there is an advertisement in the newspapers:
“New name – old parking lot”.
After signing an agreement in the criminal case with Z. Niclasen, we change the name of our parking lot P/F Taxa to “AUTO”
The telephone number is unchanged 1234 . one-two-three-four.
Phoneboxing
In 1957 AUTO received permission to install so-called telephone boxes in Torshavn. One in Vágsbotn, one at Eystaruvágur, one at Vaglin, one in Greenland and one in Bókbindaragøta. Already then, the citizen of Havn could, just by pressing a button, get in touch with AUTO.
New building
On 15 March 1955 it was decided to resume negotiations with Jens Paula av Reyni on the land Matr. Nr. 393a.
7 June 1955 bought AUTO Mtr. Nr. 393a for 20,000 kr. and November 28, 1955 was started.
The new station
At a meeting on 3 July, it was agreed to apply for a loan against a mortgage on the company’s assets.
The station was completed in the summer of 1956, and according to a description at the time, there were 17 large cars at the station. At the time of writing, there are 33 cars running from the station.
Because the Havnará ran through the area, a wooden bridge was built to gain access from Niels Finsensgøta. Part of the station was also built on this bridge.
This was a beautiful place, which was very well located in the city.
The station had a reception room for those who looked after the telephone, a kitchen and a room for the drivers.
There was a large garage next to the grave, so drivers themselves had the opportunity to repair the cars. There was also a sale of lubricating oil and fuel.

The first color the station was painted in was yellow with blue stripes, with the logo “Auto” on the front.
In 1969 the old station was demolished, and a new village was rebuilt on the same site.
Auto is the first built parking lot in the city.
The station has since been modernised, and thus changed somewhat. It will be maintained, and it will be constantly beautified.
It is with gratitude and respect that we have looked back in time.
This is a place we should all be proud of.
